Complementary care

This check complements the NHS Healthy Child Programme and health-visitor reviews — it gives more time and depth, and is useful for a specific worry, a school or activity medical, or simple reassurance. We follow standard UK growth and development guidance.

Safeguarding, consent & joined-up care

The safety of every child comes first

All our clinicians are trained in paediatric safeguarding (child protection) to the level their role requires, hold enhanced DBS checks, and work to national safeguarding guidance and our own safeguarding policy. If we are ever concerned about a child’s safety, we follow our safeguarding procedures and local child-protection pathways.

Consent and who should attend

A parent or legal guardian with parental responsibility should attend with children under 16, and we ask for the child’s and parent’s ID at the first visit. Where a young person is judged able to understand and decide about their own care (Gillick competence), we involve them fully while encouraging parental support.

Chaperones and privacy

A chaperone is offered for any examination, at no charge, and your child’s dignity and privacy are respected throughout. We keep clear, confidential records.

Working with your NHS GP

With your consent, we share relevant information with your child’s NHS GP so their care stays joined up and safe. You can ask for a copy of any letter or result.

What we don’t do here

  • We are not an emergency service. If your child is seriously unwell — struggling to breathe, unresponsive, having a fit, a stiff neck or a rash that does not fade under a glass — call 999 or go to the nearest A&E. The Royal London Hospital (about 5 minutes’ walk) has a paediatric emergency department.
  • We are an outpatient clinic and do not provide hospital admission or inpatient care.
  • We do not provide crisis or emergency mental-health care — our children’s mental health clinic is for planned assessments and reviews.

Being clear about our limits is part of keeping your child safe. If your child needs urgent or emergency care, please use 999, NHS 111 or A&E.

Newborn to 18. The content is tailored to your child’s age — from baby checks to teenage health reviews.

Is this the same as the NHS health-visitor checks?

It complements them, with more time and a full examination. It is not a replacement for NHS reviews or immunisations.

Can you do a school, camp or activity medical?

Yes — tell us what the form or organisation requires and we’ll complete it.

What happens if you find something?

We explain it clearly, start a plan where we can, and refer promptly to the right specialist if needed.
