Small, planned procedures performed under local anaesthetic in a treatment room, with no general anaesthetic and no overnight stay: removing moles, cysts, lipomas, skin tags, warts and other benign lesions; biopsies; earlobe and xanthelasma procedures; ingrown toenail surgery; and selected anal and genital procedures. Anything needing sedation, a general anaesthetic or hospital facilities is referred with a written summary.
Can minor surgery be done the same day?
Same-day or short-notice assessments are often available, and a selected simple procedure may be performed at the same visit where it is clinically appropriate, your consent is complete and the right clinician and treatment room are free. We do not promise that every lesion will be treated on the spot — a lesion should be examined before it is removed, and some need a diagnosis first.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book a £150 minor surgery consultation directly. If a lesion needs specialist dermatology, an NHS urgent skin-cancer pathway or hospital plastic surgery, we will tell you and refer you.
How much does minor surgery cost?
The £150 consultation comes first and is charged separately. Procedures are then priced by type, size and site — for example skin tags and shave mole removal from £295, cysts and lipomas from £425, anal skin tags from £640, earlobe repair from £810 per lobe — and histology, where indicated, is £120 per specimen. Your final price is confirmed after assessment and before anything is done.
Is removed tissue always sent for histology?
Not always. Excised tissue is sent to an accredited laboratory where clinically indicated, and we keep a low threshold for testing any lesion whose diagnosis is uncertain or where histology is recommended, such as excised moles. Clearly benign superficial lesions — uncomplicated skin tags, viral warts and milia — are not routinely tested. Histology is charged separately, and your clinician tells you before treatment whether your specimen is being sent.
Who performs minor surgery at Tower Bridge Hospital?
Minor surgery is matched to the right clinician. Dr Yıldırım Özdoğan, Consultant Plastic Surgeon, performs excisions, complex or cosmetically sensitive procedures, earlobe repair, scar revision and circumcision. Dr Pankaj Gupta, GP with a Special Interest in ENT, performs selected minor procedures. Dr Elena Koleva, Consultant Dermatologist, provides medical assessment, dermoscopy and diagnosis only — she does not perform surgery. The clinician is chosen by procedure, site and complexity.
What is the difference between a cyst and a lipoma?
A cyst is a sac in the skin filled with keratin or oily material; it often has a small central punctum and can become inflamed. A lipoma is a soft, deeper lump of fatty tissue under the skin. They are treated differently — a cyst needs its wall removed to reduce recurrence — so assessment, and ultrasound where the diagnosis is unclear, comes first.
Will I have a scar?
Any procedure that cuts the skin leaves some mark. Shave excision of a raised mole usually heals to a small flat pale area; an elliptical excision leaves a fine line scar roughly three times the width of the lesion. Site, skin type, technique and aftercare all matter, and cosmetically sensitive sites can be planned with our Consultant Plastic Surgeon.
Are anal and genital procedures confidential?
Yes. Assessment establishes the diagnosis first. Warts may need sexual-health testing; some lesions need urology, women’s health or dermatology input. Private rooms, a chaperone on request and nothing shared without your consent.
Do you offer plastic surgery and hair restoration?
Yes. Our plastic surgery service offers consultant-led consultations and in-clinic day procedures; larger cosmetic surgery is assessed here and referred to a hospital pathway with a written summary. Hair restoration is doctor-led FUE hair transplantation with UK-based assessment, planning and aftercare.
