What we help with

When the past won’t stay in the past

Trauma can follow a single event or build up over time. You don’t need a formal PTSD diagnosis to benefit from trauma therapy. We help with:

  • Post-traumatic stress (PTSD) — flashbacks, nightmares, intrusive memories
  • Feeling constantly on edge, easily startled, or unable to switch off
  • Avoiding reminders, places or people connected to what happened
  • Emotional numbness, detachment or feeling cut off from others
  • Trauma from accidents, assault, medical events, childbirth, loss or childhood experiences
  • Complex trauma that has built up over many years

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing

EMDR is a well-established, evidence-based therapy recommended by national guidance (NICE) for PTSD. It helps your brain reprocess distressing memories so they lose their intensity and stop intruding on the present. Using guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation while briefly focusing on a memory, EMDR allows the memory to be stored differently — you remember what happened, but it no longer overwhelms you.

Many people are surprised that they don’t have to talk through every detail of what happened for EMDR to work.

Trauma-focused CBT

Understanding and reclaiming

Trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy is another evidence-based, NICE-recommended treatment. It helps you understand how trauma has affected your thoughts, feelings and behaviour, work through the memories at your own pace, and gradually reclaim the life and activities that trauma has taken from you.

Safe, paced and in your control

You set the pace

Good trauma therapy never rushes or re-traumatises you. We begin by helping you feel safe and stable, build coping tools first, and only work on the difficult memories when you’re ready. You stay in control throughout. If your symptoms are severe or you’re also struggling with your mood, we make sure the right wider support is in place — see our mental health service.

Safe, joined-up care

GMC-registered clinicians, CQC-registered clinic

You’re seen by GMC-registered clinicians at our CQC-registered Whitechapel clinic. We keep clear, confidential records and, with your consent, share a summary with your NHS GP so your care stays joined up. A chaperone is available for any examination on request, at no charge.

You don’t need to be registered with us, and private care complements — it doesn’t replace — being registered with an NHS GP.

What we don’t do here

  • We are not an emergency service. For anything serious or life-threatening, call 999 or go to A&E. For urgent advice any time, NHS 111 is available 24/7.
  • We are an outpatient clinic and do not provide hospital admission or inpatient care.
  • Private care and screening complement, and do not replace, being registered with an NHS GP or national NHS screening programmes.

Fees

Clear, up-front pricing

Consultation and assessment fees are set out on our price list, and any tests or treatments are explained and priced clearly before you go ahead — no surprises. Some services are priced on enquiry; just ask the clinic team.

Common questions

What is EMDR and does it really work?

EMDR is a structured, evidence-based therapy recommended by NICE for PTSD. A large body of research shows it is effective, often relatively quickly, at reducing the distress of traumatic memories.

Do I have to describe everything that happened?

No. With EMDR in particular, you don’t have to recount every detail out loud. Your therapist will explain the approach and make sure you feel safe and in control throughout.

How long does trauma therapy take?

It varies with the type and severity of trauma. A single-event trauma may resolve in a handful of sessions; complex or long-standing trauma usually needs longer. Your therapist will discuss a realistic plan with you.

Is it normal to feel worse before better?

Some people notice difficult feelings early in the work. A skilled trauma therapist paces things carefully and gives you coping tools first to keep this manageable. Tell your therapist if anything feels too much — the pace is yours.

What if I’m in crisis?

Trauma therapy is planned treatment, not crisis care. If you’re in crisis or feel unsafe, call 999 or the Samaritans on 116 123 at any time, or contact NHS 111. We’ll always make sure you have the right support alongside therapy.
