Safeguarding, consent & joined-up care
Safeguarding, consent and joined-up care with your NHS GP are part of every children’s appointment.
The safety of every child comes first
All our clinicians are trained in paediatric safeguarding (child protection) to the level their role requires, hold enhanced DBS checks, and work to national safeguarding guidance and our own safeguarding policy. If we are ever concerned about a child’s safety, we follow our safeguarding procedures and local child-protection pathways.
Consent and who should attend
A parent or legal guardian with parental responsibility should attend with children under 16, and we ask for the child’s and parent’s ID at the first visit. Where a young person is judged able to understand and decide about their own care (Gillick competence), we involve them fully while encouraging parental support.
Chaperones and privacy
A chaperone is offered for any examination, at no charge, and your child’s dignity and privacy are respected throughout. We keep clear, confidential records.
Working with your NHS GP
With your consent, we share relevant information with your child’s NHS GP so their care stays joined up and safe. You can ask for a copy of any letter or result.
What we don’t do here
- We are not an emergency service. If your child is seriously unwell — struggling to breathe, unresponsive, having a fit, a stiff neck or a rash that does not fade under a glass — call 999 or go to the nearest A&E. The Royal London Hospital (about 5 minutes’ walk) has a paediatric emergency department.
- We are an outpatient clinic and do not provide hospital admission or inpatient care.
- We do not provide crisis or emergency mental-health care — our children’s mental health clinic is for planned assessments and reviews.
Being clear about our limits is part of keeping your child safe. If your child needs urgent or emergency care, please use 999, NHS 111 or A&E.

From what age can you take blood?
Any age, including babies — our team is experienced in infant and child phlebotomy and uses numbing cream and gentle techniques.
Does it hurt?
Numbing cream and an experienced, unhurried approach keep discomfort to a minimum. Most children cope far better than parents expect.
How quickly are results back?
Most results are back within a few days; some are available the same or next day. A doctor reviews them and explains what they mean.
Can you do tests my hospital consultant asked for?
Yes — bring the request or list of tests and we’ll arrange them.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book directly. With your consent, we keep your child’s NHS GP informed so their records stay complete.
Who should come to the appointment with my child?
A parent or legal guardian with parental responsibility should attend with children under 16. Young people who are able to make decisions about their own care (Gillick competence) are fully involved, and we encourage parental support.
Do I need a test request form?
No — one of our doctors can advise which tests are needed. If your child’s specialist has asked for tests, bring the request or list and we’ll arrange them.
How much does a children’s appointment cost?
A children’s consultation is £140 with one of our GPs or £150 with our consultant paediatrician, Dr Radka Velitchkova. Any tests or treatments are explained and priced before you go ahead — see our price list.
Can you send a letter or report to our NHS GP?
Yes — with your consent we share relevant information with your child’s NHS GP so care stays joined up, and you can ask for a copy of any letter or result.
