What an ECG can (and can’t) tell us

Sometimes more tests are needed

An ECG records your heart’s rhythm at that moment and can show signs of some heart problems, but a normal ECG doesn’t rule everything out. Some conditions need an echocardiogram or 24-hour monitoring, which we can arrange. If you have severe or ongoing chest pain now, call 999.

Safe, joined-up care

Every appointment is with a GMC-registered doctor

You’re seen at our CQC-registered Whitechapel clinic by a GMC-registered doctor. We keep clear, confidential records and, with your consent, send a summary to your NHS GP so your care stays joined up.

You don’t need to be registered with us, and a private appointment doesn’t replace being registered with an NHS GP. A chaperone is available for any examination on request, at no charge. We prescribe responsibly, in line with GMC guidance and antimicrobial stewardship.

What we don’t do here

  • We are not an emergency service. For anything serious or life-threatening — chest pain, difficulty breathing, stroke symptoms, heavy bleeding, a collapse — call 999 or go to A&E. For urgent-but-not-emergency advice, NHS 111 is available 24/7. The Royal London Hospital A&E is about 5 minutes’ walk away.
  • We are an outpatient clinic and do not provide hospital admission or inpatient care.
  • A private GP appointment complements, but does not replace, being registered with an NHS GP.
  • We only issue controlled medication after a proper assessment and appropriate checks — not on demand, and with shared care where relevant.

Being clear about our limits keeps you safe. For emergencies use 999 or A&E; for urgent advice, NHS 111.

What can an ECG show?

Your heart rhythm and signs of some heart conditions. A normal result is reassuring but doesn’t exclude everything.

I get palpitations — can you help?

Yes — we assess you and may arrange longer-term heart monitoring.

Do you have a cardiologist?

We refer to consultant cardiology and can arrange echocardiograms and monitoring.

Should I come in with chest pain?

If it’s severe or ongoing, call 999. For milder or intermittent symptoms, book a heart check.
