Your blood tests, explained.

The £450 Health MOT includes the TDL DL6 General Well Person Profile — a broad haematology and biochemistry screen with thyroid, glucose-control and iron-store markers. Samples are processed by The Doctors Laboratory (TDL).

  • Full blood count (FBC)

Looks at red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets, helping assess patterns such as anaemia and changes in blood-cell measurements.

  • ESR

A non-specific marker that can support assessment of inflammation when interpreted alongside symptoms, history and other results.

  • Kidney function & electrolytes

Sodium, Potassium, Chloride, Bicarbonate, Urea, Creatinine, eGFR

Provides information about kidney filtration and the body’s fluid and electrolyte balance.

  • Liver function

Bilirubin, ALP, AST, ALT, GGT, Total protein, Albumin, Globulin

A group of markers used by the doctor to help interpret liver and biliary function in clinical context.

  • Bone & mineral profile

    Calcium, Phosphate, Uric acid, Magnesium

Provides information about important minerals and related metabolic balance.

  • Glucose

Measures blood glucose at the time the sample is taken.

  • HbA1c

Reflects average blood glucose over approximately the previous 2–3 months.

  • Cholesterol & triglycerides

Total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Non-HDL, Triglycerides

Measures major blood fats used in cardiovascular-risk assessment.

  • Iron + TIBC

Helps assess circulating iron and the blood’s iron-binding capacity.

  • Ferritin

Provides information about the body’s iron stores.

  • Thyroid function

    Free T4, TSH

Core thyroid hormone measurements used to assess thyroid function.

  • Results are interpreted by a clinician in context. Screening tests do not diagnose every condition and may lead to further assessment where clinically appropriate.

The £450 package uses the DL6L version of the profile, which adds HDL, LDL and non-HDL cholesterol to the standard DL6 screen.

A health check for people who want to be proactive.

Frequently asked questions

Here are answers to common questions about our Health MOT service.

What is included in the £450 Health MOT?

A doctor consultation with history and examination; vital signs including blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen levels; body composition (BMI, body fat and muscle); a resting 12-lead ECG; an ultrasound scan of the major abdominal organs (liver, kidneys, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen and bladder); urinalysis (dipstick); and the TDL DL6 General Well Person blood profile — full blood count, ESR, kidney and liver function, bone and mineral markers, glucose, HbA1c, cholesterol and triglycerides, iron with TIBC, ferritin and thyroid function (Free T4 and TSH).

Do I need an NHS GP referral?

No. You can book the Health MOT directly — no GP referral is needed.

How do I prepare for my appointment?

Preparation depends on the investigations being performed. We will tell you in advance if fasting or any other preparation is required. It can help to bring a list of any medicines you take.

Will I need to fast?

Preparation depends on the investigations being performed. We will tell you in advance if fasting or any other preparation is required.

How long should I allow for my visit?

The Health MOT is completed in one visit. Most visits take around 60–90 minutes; we will confirm timings when you book.

When will my results be available?

Measurements taken in clinic — such as your ECG, blood pressure, body composition, urinalysis and ultrasound — are discussed during your visit. Blood samples are processed by The Doctors Laboratory (TDL), and blood results are typically available within 24 hours.

Who explains my results?

A GMC-registered doctor reviews your results and explains them in the context of your history, examination and other findings.

What happens if something needs further investigation?

Your doctor will explain what a finding means and discuss appropriate next steps — for example a repeat test, further investigation, a specialist opinion or a letter to your NHS GP. Any further test is discussed and priced before it is arranged. If you need further blood tests, we can arrange them here.

How much does a private health check cost in London?

Our Comprehensive Health MOT is a £450 self-pay package covering the doctor consultation, vital signs, body composition, ECG, abdominal ultrasound, urine test and TDL DL6 blood profile. There is no membership or booking fee, and any further test your doctor recommends is discussed and priced before it is arranged.

Is a Health MOT the same as a full body MOT or full body check-up?

Broadly, yes — “full body MOT” is a common name for this kind of check. Ours looks at your heart, blood pressure, body composition, blood results and the major abdominal organs, with a doctor reviewing everything together. It is not a scan of every part of the body, and screening tests cannot rule out every condition.

Can I book a well man or well woman check?

Yes. The Health MOT covers the core of a well man or well woman check — blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar (HbA1c), kidney, liver and thyroid function, an ECG and an abdominal ultrasound — together with a doctor consultation. If you would prefer an ultrasound-focused package, see our Well Woman & Well Man Scan.

Can I bring previous test results or medical records?

Yes. Previous results, letters and a list of your medicines can help the doctor put your new results in context.

Where is Tower Bridge Hospital?

Tower Bridge Hospital, 97–99 Whitechapel Road, London E1 1DT — a few minutes’ walk from Aldgate East and Whitechapel stations. We are open 7 days a week, 9am–7pm. Get directions.

Is there a membership fee?

No. There is no membership and no booking fee — the Health MOT is a £450 self-pay package, and all fees are shown on our price list.

Any other questions?

Call us on 020 7916 0029, message us on WhatsApp, or ask Grace, our online assistant. Reception is open 7 days a week, 9am–7pm.

Does my insurance cover a Health MOT?

Many private medical insurance plans include an annual health assessment as a benefit — Bupa, AXA Health, Vitality, Aviva, Cigna and WPA all commonly cover this. Coverage varies by policy. Always contact your insurer first and get pre-authorisation before booking. We can provide an itemised invoice if you need to claim back.

Can I book a Health MOT for my team or family?

Yes — we run team and family screening days, particularly for City businesses and executive teams. Bulk pricing applies from 5+ bookings. See our corporate health page or email info@towerbridgehospital.co.uk for a written proposal.

I’m worried about a specific symptom — should I book a Health MOT or a GP appointment?

If you have a specific concern or symptom, book a private GP appointment instead. A Health MOT is a planned health check rather than an assessment of a particular symptom. If you’re not sure, call reception and they will help you choose.

Is it private — will it show on my NHS record?

Your visit is private. We share information with your NHS GP only with your consent — we ask at the consultation. All records are stored under UK GDPR rules.

Does the Health MOT include a heart health check?

Yes. It includes a resting 12-lead ECG, blood pressure and heart rate, and a cholesterol profile (total, HDL, LDL and non-HDL cholesterol and triglycerides), along with glucose and HbA1c. Your doctor looks at these together as part of your cardiovascular risk and explains what they mean for you.

Who is a Health MOT suitable for?

It suits people who feel well but would value a doctor-led baseline, those with a family history of heart disease or diabetes, people returning to exercise or managing risk factors such as raised blood pressure or cholesterol, and anyone who has not had a check for a while.

Can my child or teenager have a private health check?

For children and teenagers we offer a separate Children’s Health Check — a growth, development and general health review for ages 0–18.

Full body MOT & private health screening

Full body MOT, well man checks & private health screening

People often search for a “full body MOT” or a “full body check-up” when what they want is a thorough, doctor-led review of their health. Our Health MOT covers this in one visit: a doctor consultation and examination, blood pressure and other vital signs, body composition, a resting 12-lead ECG, an ultrasound scan of the major abdominal organs, a urine test and the TDL DL6 blood profile, including cholesterol, HbA1c, kidney, liver and thyroid function. It is not a scan of every part of the body, and no screening test can rule out every condition, but it gives you a clear baseline with a doctor to explain it.

The same appointment works as a well man or well woman check, a heart health check — ECG, blood pressure and cholesterol in one visit — or a general private health screening if you have a family history, are starting a new role or simply have not had a check for a while. The price is £450, with no GP referral, membership or booking fee, and any further test is discussed and priced before it is arranged. Employers can arrange corporate health screening days for their teams, and for children and teenagers we offer a separate Children’s Health Check.

If you have a specific symptom rather than a planned check in mind, a private GP appointment is usually the better first step.
