This check complements the NHS Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) and your health-visitor reviews — it gives extra time and reassurance. If we find anything that needs urgent attention, we arrange it promptly.

Your child is seen by a named, GMC- or HCPC-registered clinician working within their own scope of practice — with the wider children’s team in the same building when more input is needed.

Dr Pankaj Gupta
GP with a Special Interest in ENTGMC-registered GP (MBBS, MRCGP) with ENT expertise. Sees children for GP appointments and GP-level ear, nose and throat assessment, with consultant referral when needed.

Safeguarding, consent & joined-up care
Safeguarding, consent and joined-up care with your NHS GP are part of every children’s appointment.
The safety of every child comes first
All our clinicians are trained in paediatric safeguarding (child protection) to the level their role requires, hold enhanced DBS checks, and work to national safeguarding guidance and our own safeguarding policy. If we are ever concerned about a child’s safety, we follow our safeguarding procedures and local child-protection pathways.
Consent and who should attend
A parent or legal guardian with parental responsibility should attend with children under 16, and we ask for the child’s and parent’s ID at the first visit. Where a young person is judged able to understand and decide about their own care (Gillick competence), we involve them fully while encouraging parental support.
Chaperones and privacy
A chaperone is offered for any examination, at no charge, and your child’s dignity and privacy are respected throughout. We keep clear, confidential records.
Working with your NHS GP
With your consent, we share relevant information with your child’s NHS GP so their care stays joined up and safe. You can ask for a copy of any letter or result.
What we don’t do here
- We are not an emergency service. If your child is seriously unwell — struggling to breathe, unresponsive, having a fit, a stiff neck or a rash that does not fade under a glass — call 999 or go to the nearest A&E. The Royal London Hospital (about 5 minutes’ walk) has a paediatric emergency department.
- We are an outpatient clinic and do not provide hospital admission or inpatient care.
- We do not provide crisis or emergency mental-health care — our children’s mental health clinic is for planned assessments and reviews.
Being clear about our limits is part of keeping your child safe. If your child needs urgent or emergency care, please use 999, NHS 111 or A&E.

How soon after birth can you see us?
Any time from birth — call to arrange a time that suits you and your baby.
Is this instead of the NHS newborn check?
No — it’s complementary, with more time to examine your baby and answer your questions.
Can you check feeding and weight?
Yes — feeding, weight gain and growth are a core part of the check, with practical advice for breast or bottle feeding.
What if you find a concern?
We explain it clearly and, if needed, arrange prompt onward assessment or referral.
How much does a children’s appointment cost?
A children’s consultation is £140 with one of our GPs or £150 with our consultant paediatrician, Dr Radka Velitchkova. Any tests or treatments are explained and priced before you go ahead — see our price list.
When should a newborn check be done?
Any time from birth. Many parents book in the first weeks, alongside the NHS newborn (NIPE) and health-visitor checks, or whenever they would like a thorough review and reassurance.
What does the newborn examination include?
A full head-to-toe examination — heart, hips, eyes, testes, spine and palate — plus weight, length and head circumference on centile charts, a feeding and weight-gain review, a jaundice assessment, skin and cord checks, and safer-sleep advice.
Who should come to the appointment with my child?
A parent or legal guardian with parental responsibility should attend with children under 16. Young people who are able to make decisions about their own care (Gillick competence) are fully involved, and we encourage parental support.
What should I bring?
Please bring your child’s and your own ID for the first visit, plus any letters, test results or a list of current medicines. Our team will tell you if anything else is needed when you book.
What if my baby under 3 months has a fever?
A baby under 3 months with a fever should be assessed in hospital, not in a private outpatient clinic — please go to A&E or call 111.
Can you send a letter or report to our NHS GP?
Yes — with your consent we share relevant information with your child’s NHS GP so care stays joined up, and you can ask for a copy of any letter or result.
