  1. A consultation and full ENT examination of the ears, nose and throat.
  2. Hearing advice and, where needed, onward hearing tests.
  3. A clear diagnosis and treatment plan.
  4. Medication where it will help.
  5. Referral to a paediatric ENT surgeon if an operation may be the answer.

Safeguarding, consent & joined-up care

The safety of every child comes first

All our clinicians are trained in paediatric safeguarding (child protection) to the level their role requires, hold enhanced DBS checks, and work to national safeguarding guidance and our own safeguarding policy. If we are ever concerned about a child’s safety, we follow our safeguarding procedures and local child-protection pathways.

Consent and who should attend

A parent or legal guardian with parental responsibility should attend with children under 16, and we ask for the child’s and parent’s ID at the first visit. Where a young person is judged able to understand and decide about their own care (Gillick competence), we involve them fully while encouraging parental support.

Chaperones and privacy

A chaperone is offered for any examination, at no charge, and your child’s dignity and privacy are respected throughout. We keep clear, confidential records.

Working with your NHS GP

With your consent, we share relevant information with your child’s NHS GP so their care stays joined up and safe. You can ask for a copy of any letter or result.

What we don’t do here

  • We are not an emergency service. If your child is seriously unwell — struggling to breathe, unresponsive, having a fit, a stiff neck or a rash that does not fade under a glass — call 999 or go to the nearest A&E. The Royal London Hospital (about 5 minutes’ walk) has a paediatric emergency department.
  • We are an outpatient clinic and do not provide hospital admission or inpatient care.
  • We do not provide crisis or emergency mental-health care — our children’s mental health clinic is for planned assessments and reviews.

Being clear about our limits is part of keeping your child safe. If your child needs urgent or emergency care, please use 999, NHS 111 or A&E.

Common questions

My child keeps getting ear infections — can you help?

Yes. We assess why they keep happening, treat the current problem, and advise on prevention and whether specialist referral is needed.

What is glue ear?

A build-up of fluid behind the eardrum that can affect hearing. It is very common, often settles by itself, and we advise on monitoring, hearing and when treatment or referral helps.

Do you remove earwax in children?

We examine the ears and remove wax gently when it is appropriate and safe to do so.

Can you refer for grommets or tonsil surgery?

Yes — if surgery is likely to help, we refer to an experienced paediatric ENT surgeon with a clear letter.
