Long-acting methods

The coil and implant

Long-acting reversible contraception (the coil and implant) is among the most reliable contraception available, and once fitted you don’t have to think about it for several years. We check your medical history, blood pressure and any factors that make some methods more or less suitable (following national UKMEC safety guidance), discuss what matters to you — periods, hormones, convenience, future plans — and answer every question. Nothing is rushed and nothing is off-limits.

We can also review a method that isn’t working for you and help you switch safely.

Emergency contraception

Fast, confidential help

If you need emergency contraception, act quickly — it’s more effective the sooner it’s used. We provide the emergency pill and can advise on the copper coil, which is the most effective emergency method. We’ll also arrange follow-up and any testing you need.

Safe, joined-up care

GMC-registered clinicians, CQC-registered clinic

You’re seen by GMC-registered clinicians at our CQC-registered Whitechapel clinic. We keep clear, confidential records and, with your consent, share a summary with your NHS GP so your care stays joined up. A chaperone is available for any examination on request, at no charge.

You don’t need to be registered with us, and private care complements — it doesn’t replace — being registered with an NHS GP.

What we don’t do here

  • We are not an emergency service. For anything serious or life-threatening, call 999 or go to A&E. For urgent advice any time, NHS 111 is available 24/7.
  • We are an outpatient clinic and do not provide hospital admission or inpatient care.
  • Private care and screening complement, and do not replace, being registered with an NHS GP or national NHS screening programmes.

Which contraception is best for me?

That depends on your health, your periods, your plans and your preferences — there’s no single best method. We talk through all the options against national safety guidance and help you choose the one that fits you.

Can you fit a coil or implant?

We offer coil (IUD/IUS) fitting and removal, and advice and provision for the contraceptive implant. See our coil fitting page for details, or ask the clinic team.

Do you offer emergency contraception?

Yes. We provide the emergency contraceptive pill and can advise on the copper coil, which is the most effective option. Emergency contraception works best the sooner it’s used, so contact us promptly.

Is my appointment confidential?

Completely. Contraception care is confidential. With your consent we share a summary with your NHS GP so your records stay joined up, but that’s always your choice.

Can I switch methods if mine isn’t working?

Absolutely. If your current method causes side effects or doesn’t suit you, we review it and help you change to something better, safely.
