What it is

More than a keepsake

Our 3D/4D and HD bonding scans give you beautiful, detailed images of your baby while an experienced sonographer confirms heartbeat, movement, position and estimated wellbeing. It’s a warm, unhurried appointment designed to be shared.

  • 3D — still images showing your baby’s features in depth
  • 4D — live moving images: yawning, stretching, hiccupping
  • HD/HDlive — warm, lifelike lighting for the clearest keepsakes
  • Heartbeat, movement, position and fluid checked as part of the visit

When to come, and how it works

The clearest facial images are usually between about 27 and 34 weeks, when there’s enough detail but still room to move. Come well-hydrated, allow around 30 minutes, and bring whoever you’d like — partners, children and grandparents are welcome. If baby is shy, we’ll take a short break and try again.

You’ll go home with printed images and a digital clip to keep and share.

A wellbeing check, not just pictures

Because a qualified sonographer performs the scan, we also look at your baby’s heartbeat, movements, position and amniotic fluid. A bonding scan is not a substitute for your NHS dating (12-week) or anomaly (20-week) scans, which are the detailed screening scans — but if we ever see something that needs attention, we’ll explain it clearly and make sure you’re referred to the right maternity team.

Safe, joined-up care

GMC-registered clinicians, CQC-registered clinic

You’re seen by GMC-registered clinicians at our CQC-registered Whitechapel clinic. We keep clear, confidential records and, with your consent, share a summary with your NHS GP so your care stays joined up. A chaperone is available for any examination on request, at no charge.

You don’t need to be registered with us, and private care complements — it doesn’t replace — being registered with an NHS GP.

What we don’t do here

  • We are not an emergency service. For anything serious or life-threatening, call 999 or go to A&E. For urgent advice any time, NHS 111 is available 24/7.
  • We are an outpatient clinic and do not provide hospital admission or inpatient care.
  • Private care and screening complement, and do not replace, being registered with an NHS GP or national NHS screening programmes.

Common questions

When is the best time for a 4D scan?

Usually between 27 and 34 weeks, when your baby has enough fat for clear facial detail but still has room to move. We’re happy to advise on timing for your pregnancy.

Does it replace my NHS scans?

No. Your NHS 12-week dating scan and 20-week anomaly scan are the medical screening scans. A bonding scan is an additional, reassuring look — though our sonographer will still check your baby’s wellbeing.

Can I bring my family?

Yes, please do. These scans are made to be shared — bring your partner, children or parents.

What if my baby won’t cooperate?

It’s common for babies to face away or cover their face. We’ll pause, have you move around, and try again. If we still can’t get good images, we’ll arrange a repeat visit.

Will you tell me the sex?

We can, if you’d like — just let the sonographer know at the start. We also offer a dedicated early gender scan.
