What it investigates

Making sense of episodes

An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a painless test that records the electrical patterns of your brain using small sensors on the scalp. It helps investigate:

  • Seizures and suspected epilepsy
  • Blackouts, funny turns and unexplained episodes of loss of awareness
  • Certain causes of confusion or memory disturbance

How we run it

Assessed here, tested with our partners

We start with a clinical assessment of your symptoms, then arrange the EEG (routine, sleep-deprived or ambulatory as appropriate) and specialist neurophysiology reporting through our partners. You have a follow-up to discuss the result and any next steps.

This is an assess, scan and refer service. Where treatment or specialist management is needed, we arrange it promptly through our trusted consultant and imaging partners.

The right pathway

An EEG is one piece of the picture — results are interpreted alongside your history and, sometimes, brain imaging. If you need ongoing neurology care, we refer you promptly to a consultant neurologist. If you’re having frequent or prolonged seizures, that’s an emergency — call 999.

Safe, joined-up care

GMC-registered clinicians, CQC-registered clinic

You’re seen by GMC-registered clinicians at our CQC-registered Whitechapel clinic. We keep clear, confidential records and, with your consent, share a summary with your NHS GP so your care stays joined up. A chaperone is available for any examination on request, at no charge.

You don’t need to be registered with us, and private care complements — it doesn’t replace — being registered with an NHS GP.

What we don’t do here

  • We are not an emergency service. For anything serious or life-threatening, call 999 or go to A&E. For urgent advice any time, NHS 111 is available 24/7.
  • We are an outpatient clinic and do not provide hospital admission or inpatient care.
  • Private care and screening complement, and do not replace, being registered with an NHS GP or national NHS screening programmes.
  • This is an assess, scan and refer service. Where treatment or specialist management is needed, we arrange it promptly through our trusted consultant and imaging partners.

No — small sensors are placed on your scalp to record activity. It’s completely painless and involves no radiation.

What can an EEG show?

Do I need a referral?

No — we assess you first, then arrange the right type of EEG and specialist reporting through our partners.

What happens after the test?

A neurophysiologist reports the EEG and we discuss the result with you, arranging neurology referral if ongoing care is needed.
