Men's urology & sexual health

Men's urology & sexual health — where to start.

You don't need to work out our department structure first. Start with the men's-health GP service for broad assessment — hormones, cardiovascular risk, sexual-health and general concerns — or, if you already have an established or specialist urological problem, book directly with our Specialist Urologist. No unnecessary gatekeeping.

General men's health — GP-led

with Dr Haydar Bolat, GMC-registered GP

Broad first assessment: erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, low libido, testosterone and hormones, fertility and sperm analysis, sexual health, prostate and urinary symptoms, and cardiometabolic risk — with onward referral where needed.

What we treat

Most of what men actually book for, in one clinic.

The things men typically delay seeing a doctor about. We don't make it awkward, we don't rush you, and we don't try to sell you something you don't need. Honest assessment, evidence-based treatment, onward referral when something's beyond what a GP-led clinic can safely manage.

  • Erectile dysfunction

Proper assessment of underlying causes (cardiovascular, hormonal, psychological, treatment-related), not just a script. Discussion of treatment options including suitable treatment options (subject to clinical assessment), lifestyle changes, and onward referral where appropriate.

    Book Now — Erectile dysfunction
  • Low libido & fatigue

Reduced sex drive, low energy, mood changes. We work through the differential properly — hormones, sleep, stress, depression, medication side effects, lifestyle — rather than jumping to testosterone as the answer for everything.

Book Now — Low libido & fatigue
  • Testosterone assessment

Suspected low testosterone (hypogonadism). Full BSSM-guideline workup: symptom assessment, paired morning testosterone tests, SHBG, LH/FSH, prolactin, full bloods. We discuss appropriate treatment pathways only where genuinely indicated — see "Why we're different" below.

    Book Now — Testosterone assessment
  • Prostate concerns & PSA

Urinary symptoms (slow stream, hesitancy, nocturia, urgency), prostate examination if appropriate, PSA blood test with proper pre-test counselling about pros and cons. Urgent referral to urology if anything looks suspicious.

Book Now — Prostate concerns & PSA
  • Sexual health & STI screening

Symptom assessment (discharge, lesions, pain), discreet examination, full STI panel or specific tests as needed. Recurrent infections, partner-notification advice, post-exposure questions. Judgement-free.

Book Now — Sexual health & STI screening
  • Fertility & preconception

Trying to conceive without success? Initial fertility assessment, semen analysis arrangement (via partner labs), lifestyle and treatment review. For specialist andrology workup we refer to a fertility clinic with a clear summary letter.

Book Now — Fertility & preconception
  • Men's wellness check

For men 35+ who want a baseline health review: cardiovascular risk, blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes screening, prostate review, hormones if indicated, lifestyle and weight discussion. Same as our Health MOT but with men's-health emphasis.

Book Now — Men's wellness check
  • Lumps, lesions & "is this normal?"

Testicular lumps (always check — never ignore), scrotal swellings, lesions, anything you've noticed and want examined. Most are benign; a few need urgent referral. We'd rather you came and we said "all fine" than left it.

Book Now — Lumps, lesions & "is this normal?"

Male fertility testing

Sperm analysis & male fertility testing.

Sperm analysis and male fertility testing in London, at our Whitechapel clinic. If you've been trying to conceive without success, a semen analysis is usually the first practical step. It's straightforward, and the results give a clear starting point. A single test can be affected by illness, timing and abstinence, so a repeat is sometimes advised — and we refer to a fertility clinic or andrology specialist where a fuller workup is needed.

  • Sperm Analysis & Male Fertility Testing

A laboratory semen analysis reporting the standard parameters — concentration and count, motility and progressive motility, morphology, volume, pH and viscosity — assessed against standard reference ranges. A practical first step for couples trying to conceive.

    From £179 · Express £249 · full details

Book Now — Sperm Analysis & Male Fertility Testing
  • Male Infertility Profile

An optional wider blood profile that can accompany a semen analysis where the clinical picture calls for it — helping to look at hormonal and other factors that may affect fertility. We'll advise whether it adds value in your case rather than testing for the sake of it.

    From £179

Book Now — Male Infertility Profile

The prices above are for the test itself — a consultation is charged separately and may be needed first to decide which test is right and to interpret the results (see the price list). Semen analysis supports a fertility assessment; results are interpreted alongside your history, and a single sample does not on its own confirm or exclude a fertility problem. Where a fuller andrology workup is needed we refer to a fertility specialist. Pairs naturally with the male hormone profile below. Exact parameters and markers are confirmed at booking.

Male hormone testing

Male hormone profile, properly interpreted.

The male hormone profile in London — a testosterone blood test read properly. Low energy, low libido or mood changes can have many causes, and testosterone is only part of the picture. A hormone profile gives useful information, but results are read alongside your symptoms and, where testosterone looks low, confirmed with a repeat morning sample before any treatment is considered.

  • Male Hormone Profile

A blood profile measuring Testosterone, SHBG, LH, FSH and Prolactin — the core markers used when assessing low testosterone, low libido or fatigue. Interpreted with your symptoms, not in isolation, and repeated on a morning sample before any treatment decision.

    From £124 · full details

Book Now — Male Hormone Profile

A hormone profile supports assessment — a single result does not confirm a diagnosis, and testosterone treatment is only considered after repeat testing and a clinical review. Exact markers included are confirmed at booking. Full pricing is on our price list.

The other things men ask about — a prostate check, sorting out a vasectomy, or just a proper baseline health review. Straight answers and the right next step, without the awkwardness.

  • Prostate health & PSA

Urinary symptoms (slow stream, hesitancy, waking to pass urine), a prostate examination where appropriate, and a PSA blood test with proper pre-test counselling about the pros and cons. Anything suspicious is referred urgently to urology.

A personalised plan — medication, lifestyle advice, procedures, shockwave or follow-up, depending on the diagnosis.

How we work

Honest medicine. No upsell.

The private men's health space has some uncomfortable patterns — clinics that prescribe testosterone to nearly everyone who walks in, transactional, treatment-only services that don't examine you, "wellness" panels that test 80 things to manufacture problems to treat. We don't work that way. Here's how we actually do this.

  • TRT only when genuinely indicated

We follow BSSM (British Society for Sexual Medicine) guidelines for testosterone deficiency. That means two paired morning blood tests, full hormone panel, exclusion of reversible causes (sleep, weight, opioid use, alcohol), and clear clinical symptoms. Borderline low testosterone with vague symptoms is usually not TRT territory — it's usually a sleep, exercise, weight or stress conversation. We'll have that conversation honestly.

  • ED is assessed properly, not just prescribed

Erectile dysfunction is often the first sign of underlying cardiovascular disease — the same blood vessels are involved. We assess cardiovascular risk, check blood pressure, review medications, ask about psychological factors, do bloods if indicated. Then we discuss treatment. Most men do well on PDE5 inhibitors; some need referral to a urologist for more advanced options. The right answer depends on the man, not the clinic's revenue model.

  • Conservative on PSA, honest about it

PSA testing has real benefits and real drawbacks — it can detect prostate cancer early, but also picks up benign conditions and slow-growing cancers that wouldn't have caused harm. We'll have a proper pre-test conversation about what a result might mean for you, then test if it makes sense. If the result is concerning, urgent urology referral the same day. We don't push PSA on everyone.

  • Shared care with your NHS GP, where appropriate

For ongoing treatments — TRT, treatment options for urinary symptoms, depression treatment after men's-health screening — we write to your NHS GP requesting shared care. They continue NHS-priced treatments long-term following our recommendation. Most GPs accept this for licensed medications. For TRT specifically, some GPs prefer specialist endocrinology oversight — we'll refer if that's needed.

  • Discreet, judgement-free, on your timing

Men often delay sexual or urinary health concerns by years. We try to make this as easy as possible — book online (no need to explain to a receptionist), private clinic rooms, no awkward small talk. You can request a male doctor at booking. Conversations are confidential under GMC standards.

  • Transparent pricing, no hidden packages

A standard consultation, an extended consultation with bloods on the same visit, and a follow-up rate within a month. Everything published on our price list. We don't sell "comprehensive optimisation packages" because most men don't need them. If you need ongoing treatment, you'll know exactly what it costs before agreeing.

Before you book.

Will I see a male doctor?

Dr Bolat is the lead GP for men's health at Tower Bridge Hospital London and is male. You can request a male doctor at booking and we'll match you to Dr Bolat or another available male GP. If gender of doctor isn't important to you, we may also book you with a female GP — tell us your preference at booking.

I think I have low testosterone. Will you discuss appropriate treatment pathways?

Honestly — sometimes yes, often no. We follow British Society for Sexual Medicine (BSSM) guidelines, which require:

  • Clinical symptoms consistent with testosterone deficiency (low libido, ED, fatigue, mood, loss of muscle mass)
  • Two paired morning total testosterone tests (single test isn't enough — testosterone varies through the day and from week to week)
  • Full hormone panel including SHBG, LH/FSH, prolactin — to distinguish primary from secondary hypogonadism
  • Exclusion of reversible causes: untreated sleep apnoea, significant weight gain, opioid use, alcohol excess, depression, medications

If after this workup you have genuine testosterone deficiency, we'll discuss TRT properly — including the commitment (it's usually for life), the monitoring requirements, the fertility implications (TRT suppresses sperm production), and the cost. If your testosterone is borderline-low or normal-low with vague symptoms, we'll have a different conversation — usually about sleep, exercise, stress, weight, or alcohol — before reaching for a treatment.

I just want a quick ED treatment — do I need an appointment?

Yes — we don't issue ED treatments without a proper consultation, even for repeat treatments if you've never been assessed by us. Erectile dysfunction can be the first sign of cardiovascular disease, diabetes or hormonal problems, and the medications interact with several common drugs (nitrates, alpha-blockers). A 30-minute consultation includes proper assessment of all this; you typically leave with a treatment you can use straight away if appropriate.

If you want a script-only service without assessment, online pharmacies (LloydsDirect, Pharmacy2U, Boots Online Doctor) exist for this. We'd rather you saw us once properly, then continued with whatever's most convenient for you afterwards.

Do I need to fast for hormone blood tests?

For testosterone specifically — you need to be tested in the morning (ideally before 11am), as testosterone is at its peak in the morning and drops through the day. We don't routinely require fasting for testosterone, but if we're also checking cholesterol and glucose we'll ask you to fast for 10–12 hours beforehand. For confirmed testosterone deficiency diagnosis, we'll ask you to do two morning tests, ideally a few weeks apart.

How quickly can I be seen?

Most men's health appointments are available within the same week. For urgent concerns — a testicular lump, urinary retention, or a PSA result you're worried about — call us on 020 7916 0029 and we'll try to fit you in the same day.

What's the difference between standard and extended consultations?

The standard consultation is 30 minutes — appropriate for most concerns (ED assessment, urinary symptoms review, STI questions, lump examination, general men's health questions). You may leave with a treatment plan, treatment if appropriate, or a referral.

The extended consultation with bloods on the day is 45–60 minutes — appropriate for testosterone workup, ED with full cardiovascular assessment, or new-patient men's wellness review where we're looking at hormones, lipids, glucose, prostate and cardiovascular risk together. You receive a written summary report.

If you're not sure which is right for you, book the standard consultation and we'll upgrade only if needed — you won't be charged twice.

Will my NHS GP find out I came here?

Only if you want them to. For some treatments — ongoing TRT, treatment options for urinary symptoms, ongoing antidepressant management — writing to your GP enables shared care so they can continue NHS-priced treatments. For one-off concerns (STI screening, an ED assessment with private treatment, a wellness review) you may prefer we don't write to your GP, and that's fine. We'll ask you at the appointment.

Will you do a prostate examination?

A digital rectal examination (DRE) is offered when clinically appropriate — usually if you have urinary symptoms, an abnormal PSA, or you're aged 50+ and want a thorough prostate check. It's a brief examination, done in a private clinic room, and you can decline if you're not comfortable. We'll always explain what's involved and why before doing it. For most men a PSA blood test plus symptom history gives most of the diagnostic information.

I'm worried about a testicular lump.

Please book sooner rather than later — call us on 020 7916 0029 and we'll try to see you the same day. Most testicular lumps are completely benign (cysts, varicoceles, hydroceles), but testicular cancer is one of the most common cancers in men aged 15–45 and is highly treatable when caught early.

If anything looks suspicious, we refer urgently to NHS urology via the 2-week-wait pathway (the fastest route for suspected cancer in the UK), and arrange a scrotal ultrasound the same week. We don't delay this.

Do you treat under-18s?

For men's health specifically (sexual health, hormonal concerns), our minimum is 16 years, and we follow Fraser/Gillick guidelines for under-18s on confidential consultation. For general adolescent health, our Paediatrics service sees up to 18 with Dr Velitchkova. For under-16s, NHS sexual health services are free, confidential and excellent — we'd point you there.

Is everything confidential?

Yes. Consultations are private and your records are kept in line with UK data protection law. Nothing is shared with your GP, employer or partner without your consent.

Can my partner attend?

Yes, if you would like them to — some concerns are easier to discuss together.
