Medical Weight Management London at Tower Bridge Hospital, East London
Weight management · Doctor-led · In-person

Medical weight management, done properly.

What medical weight management actually involves at Tower Bridge Hospital: an in-person consultation with a GMC-registered doctor, a full clinical assessment, and a plan built around your health — not a product sold from an app.

We don’t sell a medication. We provide a medical service.

What this is

Clinician-led weight management — not a product.

Weight management is medicine. It needs a proper medical history, an examination, blood work where indicated, screening for conditions that might cause weight change, and an honest conversation about realistic options.

This service is built around clinical assessment first. Treatment options — including lifestyle support, dietary input, structured monitoring and, where clinically appropriate, medical treatment — are discussed only after we’ve assessed you in person.

How we work

Our clinical standards.

The weight management space in the UK is poorly regulated. Anyone can call themselves a weight loss provider. We are not that kind of clinic.

GMC-registered doctors

Every consultation conducted by a UK GMC-registered doctor — not a nurse practitioner, not a remote prescriber, not an algorithm.

In-person assessment

Initial consultation is always face-to-face at our Whitechapel clinic. Examination, measurements, and a proper conversation.

CQC-registered clinic

Registered with the Care Quality Commission (Provider ID 1-17189808454). Clinical room, appropriate equipment, proper safety standards.

Safeguarding-first

Eating disorder, pregnancy, mental health and red-flag screening before any treatment is discussed. Where this isn’t the right service, we say so.

Structured monitoring

Monthly reviews with weight, blood pressure, side-effect check, blood work where indicated. We track how you’re doing.

Honest conversations

If you’re not clinically suitable, we’ll tell you. If lifestyle alone is more appropriate than medical treatment, we’ll tell you that too.

The consultation

What happens at your assessment.

Initial consultation is 45 minutes. Allow an hour. There is no rush.

  1. 01

    Medical history & current health

Past medical conditions, current health, family history, lifestyle, current treatments and supplements. A proper picture — not a 90-second form.

  2. 02

    Examination & measurements

Height, weight, BMI, waist circumference, body composition where useful, blood pressure, cardiovascular check.

  3. 03

    Bloods where indicated

Thyroid, HbA1c, lipid profile, liver, kidney function and other markers as clinically needed. Results within 24–48 hours via The Doctors Laboratory.

  4. 04

    Safety screening

A sensitive conversation about your relationship with food, how you’re feeling mentally, pregnancy where relevant, anything you’re currently taking, and any medical history that needs to be considered.

  5. 05

    Eligibility assessment

Whether this service is right for you. Eligibility for any specific treatment option is assessed individually — not a number-on-a-scale conversation.

  6. 06

    Treatment options discussed

If you’re a suitable candidate, we discuss the full range of options — lifestyle changes, dietary patterns, structured behavioural support, and where clinically appropriate, medical treatment. Risks, benefits and realistic expectations covered.

  7. 07

    Written plan

You leave with a written treatment plan, monitoring schedule, and clear next steps. We write to your NHS GP with your consent.

Why weight matters

Obesity is a chronic disease — and it rarely travels alone.

Excess weight is not a willpower problem. It is a recognised long-term medical condition that both drives, and is driven by, other conditions — which is exactly why it deserves proper assessment rather than a quick fix.

The World Health Organization and UK guidance recognise obesity as a chronic, often relapsing disease shaped by biology — appetite hormones, metabolism and genetics — not simply by choices. Understanding that changes how it should be treated: for the long term, and without stigma. It is also why we plan for maintenance and ongoing review rather than a short course.

Insulin resistance & metabolic syndrome

Carrying excess weight, particularly around the middle, is closely linked to insulin resistance — where the body responds less well to insulin. When this clusters with raised blood pressure, raised blood glucose and abnormal cholesterol, it is known as metabolic syndrome, which raises the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Weight loss can meaningfully improve these markers, which is one reason we check them at baseline.

Type 2 diabetes & prediabetes

Weight and blood sugar are closely connected, and the relationship runs both ways. Losing weight can improve glucose control and, in some people, prediabetes. If you take diabetes medicines, doses may need adjusting as you lose weight — something we monitor carefully (see safety).

PCOS, menopause & hormonal weight

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is common and closely tied to insulin resistance; weight change can affect symptoms and fertility. Around the menopause, hormonal shifts, loss of muscle and changes in fat distribution can make weight harder to manage. These are medical, not personal, failings — and where relevant we assess them alongside our Women’s Health service.

Sleep apnoea, heart and liver health

Excess weight is associated with obstructive sleep apnoea, higher cardiovascular risk (blood pressure and cholesterol), and fatty liver disease (MASLD). Obesity is also linked to several cancers. Weight loss can reduce many of these risks — part of why the goal is health, not a number on the scales.

Eating patterns & the mind

Appetite, mood, stress and habit are part of the picture, and emotional or habitual eating is common. We approach this with support rather than judgement — and we screen sensitively for disordered eating, because where an eating disorder is present, appetite-suppressing treatment is not the right answer. This is a medical service, not a cosmetic one.

This is why our assessment looks well beyond your weight, and why treatment — when appropriate — is planned for the long term.

Private-hospital standard

Why a hospital, not an app.

Online weight-loss services can post you a prescription. A hospital can assess you properly. The difference is the depth of care behind the prescription.

Tower Bridge Hospital brings genuine clinical capability to weight management — the same building, doctors and diagnostics that support the rest of our services:

  • Doctor-led, in-person assessment by GMC-registered clinicians
  • Physical examination where clinically indicated
  • On-site phlebotomy and laboratory access for blood tests
  • Blood pressure and cardiovascular assessment, with ECG where appropriate
  • Access to ultrasound and imaging where clinically relevant
  • A GP who can review the whole picture, and links to Men’s Health and Women’s Health
  • Structured, ongoing monitoring rather than automatic repeat prescriptions

We are not here to criticise other providers — simply to show what a proper clinical assessment looks like, and why it matters for a medicine that deserves respect.

Being honest

What we don’t do.

These are the things some clinics do that we won’t.

We don’t prescribe without seeing you.

No first treatment ever leaves this clinic without an in-person consultation.

We don’t advertise medications.

Treatment options are a clinical discussion in the consultation room, not a marketing claim on a website.

We don’t treat without full screening.

Eating disorders, pregnancy, untreated mental health, certain medical conditions — these change the calculus and sometimes mean this isn’t the right service.

We don’t make outcome promises.

Anyone promising specific weight loss numbers before assessing you is selling, not treating.

We don’t do automatic renewals.

Each monthly review is a real clinical appointment.

We don’t do remote prescribing.

Video reviews for established patients only, after the in-person initial appointment.
