What we check before discussing treatment

Every patient. Every time. We make sure this is the right service for you — safely — before we talk about any treatment options.

  • Your relationship with foodA short, sensitive conversation so we can support you well.
  • How you’re feeling mentallyMood, anxiety, sleep, and any current support you’re receiving.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeedingIf this applies, we’ll plan around it and still look after you.
  • Your medical historyThyroid, diabetes, heart, gallbladder or any other conditions.
  • Anything you’re currently takingOther treatments, supplements — so we can keep you safe.
  • Examination & blood testsBlood pressure, body composition, and blood tests where helpful.

Once everything is clear, we discuss your treatment options with you in clinic.

The wider plan

Nutrition, lifestyle & lean mass.

Medication is one part of a plan. What you eat and how you move protect your health and your results.

Because these medicines reduce appetite, the challenge shifts from eating less to eating well enough. We focus on sustainable habits rather than crash dieting:

  • Adequate protein at each meal to help preserve muscle
  • Good hydration — important given the gastrointestinal side effects
  • Enough fibre, fruit and vegetables to support digestion
  • Resistance / strength exercise plus general physical activity
  • Sensible sleep and alcohol habits
  • Sustainable eating patterns you can maintain long term

Protecting lean (muscle) mass

Any substantial weight loss — with or without medication — includes some loss of lean mass (muscle) as well as fat. That is normal, but worth managing. Adequate protein, regular resistance exercise and good overall nutrition help preserve muscle, and we review this with you rather than focusing on the number on the scales alone. This is not a reason for alarm — it is a reason to train and eat sensibly while you lose weight.

The consultation

What happens at your assessment.

Initial consultation is 45 minutes. Allow an hour. There is no rush.

  1. 01

    Medical history & current health

Past medical conditions, current health, family history, lifestyle, current treatments and supplements. A proper picture — not a 90-second form.

  2. 02

    Examination & measurements

Height, weight, BMI, waist circumference, body composition where useful, blood pressure, cardiovascular check.

  3. 03

    Bloods where indicated

Thyroid, HbA1c, lipid profile, liver, kidney function and other markers as clinically needed. Results within 24–48 hours via The Doctors Laboratory.

  4. 04

    Safety screening

A sensitive conversation about your relationship with food, how you’re feeling mentally, pregnancy where relevant, anything you’re currently taking, and any medical history that needs to be considered.

  5. 05

    Eligibility assessment

Whether this service is right for you. Eligibility for any specific treatment option is assessed individually — not a number-on-a-scale conversation.

  6. 06

    Treatment options discussed

If you’re a suitable candidate, we discuss the full range of options — lifestyle changes, dietary patterns, structured behavioural support, and where clinically appropriate, medical treatment. Risks, benefits and realistic expectations covered.

  7. 07

    Written plan

You leave with a written treatment plan, monitoring schedule, and clear next steps. We write to your NHS GP with your consent.

Treatment is never decided before your assessment — options are discussed only once the steps above are complete.

Safety comes first: common side effects, the strengthened MHRA pancreatitis warning, and pregnancy, breastfeeding and contraception advice are set out in full on our GLP-1 & GIP page and discussed with you in clinic.

Fees

Transparent pricing.

Consultation fees only listed. If treatment is clinically appropriate and you decide to proceed, any associated costs are discussed and agreed at the consultation — never before.

Being honest

What we don’t do.

These are the things some clinics do that we won’t.

  • We don’t prescribe without seeing you.

No first treatment ever leaves this clinic without an in-person consultation.

  • We don’t advertise medications.

Treatment options are a clinical discussion in the consultation room, not a marketing claim on a website.

  • We don’t treat without full screening.

Eating disorders, pregnancy, untreated mental health, certain medical conditions — these change the calculus and sometimes mean this isn’t the right service.

  • We don’t make outcome promises.

Anyone promising specific weight loss numbers before assessing you is selling, not treating.

  • We don’t do automatic renewals.

Each monthly review is a real clinical appointment.

  • We don’t do remote prescribing.

Video reviews for established patients only, after the in-person initial appointment.
