CBT for Anxiety & Depression

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is one of the most effective, well-researched talking therapies for anxiety and depression. It’s practical and structured — giving you tools you can use for the rest of your life, not just while you’re in therapy.

What CBT helps with

Practical help for common problems

CBT is recommended by national guidance (NICE) as a first-line treatment for a wide range of difficulties. We offer CBT for:

  • Depression and persistent low mood
  • Generalised anxiety, worry and stress
  • Panic attacks and panic disorder
  • Social anxiety and specific phobias
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Health anxiety and sleep problems

How CBT works

Changing the patterns that keep you stuck

CBT is based on a simple, powerful idea: the way we think, feel and behave are linked, and unhelpful patterns can keep problems going. Together with your therapist you learn to notice those patterns, test them, and build more helpful ways of thinking and responding.

It’s active and collaborative — you’ll often try things out between sessions — and it’s focused on the goals you set. Most people notice real change within a course of sessions.

Your therapy

Structured, goal-focused and time-limited

We start with an assessment to understand what you’re struggling with and what you want to change. Your therapist then agrees a plan and clear goals with you. CBT is usually time-limited — often somewhere between six and twenty sessions — and you’ll come away with practical tools to stay well and handle setbacks yourself.

Sessions are available in person at our Whitechapel clinic or securely online.

Joined-up mental health care

The right support around you

If it would help, CBT can sit alongside other support — a psychiatric assessment and medication review, or other therapy. Where that’s useful we can arrange it through our wider mental health and psychology services, so your care is joined up.

Safe, joined-up care

GMC-registered clinicians, CQC-registered clinic

You’re seen by GMC-registered clinicians at our CQC-registered Whitechapel clinic. We keep clear, confidential records and, with your consent, share a summary with your NHS GP so your care stays joined up. A chaperone is available for any examination on request, at no charge.

You don’t need to be registered with us, and private care complements — it doesn’t replace — being registered with an NHS GP.

What we don’t do here

  • We are not an emergency service. For anything serious or life-threatening, call 999 or go to A&E. For urgent advice any time, NHS 111 is available 24/7.
  • We are an outpatient clinic and do not provide hospital admission or inpatient care.
  • Private care and screening complement, and do not replace, being registered with an NHS GP or national NHS screening programmes.

Fees

Clear, up-front pricing

Consultation and assessment fees are set out on our price list, and any tests or treatments are explained and priced clearly before you go ahead — no surprises. Some services are priced on enquiry; just ask the clinic team.

Common questions

How many CBT sessions will I need?

It depends on the problem, but CBT is usually time-limited — commonly six to twenty sessions. Simpler, focused problems may need fewer; more complex difficulties may need more. Your therapist agrees a plan with you at the start.

Is CBT better than medication?

For many anxiety and depressive problems, CBT is as effective as medication and its benefits often last longer because you keep the skills. For some people a combination works best. We help you weigh the options, and can arrange a medication review if useful.

Can I have CBT online?

Yes. We offer secure online CBT as well as in-person sessions. Online CBT is well researched and effective, and many people find it easier to fit around their lives.

What’s the difference between CBT and counselling?

CBT is a structured, goal-focused therapy that targets specific patterns of thinking and behaviour, with practical between-session tasks. Counselling is usually more open and exploratory. We can help you decide which fits your needs.

Do I need a referral or diagnosis?

No. You can book directly, and you don’t need a formal diagnosis to benefit from CBT. Your therapist will assess what’s going on and tailor the work to you.
