What it is

Common, and nothing to be embarrassed about

Peyronie’s disease is caused by fibrous scar tissue (a plaque) forming in the penis, leading to bend, a palpable lump, shortening or pain — often affecting erections and confidence. It’s more common than many men realise, and it can be treated.

How we assess & treat

A clear, staged approach

Our specialist urology-led team (see our men’s health clinic) takes a careful, discreet history and examination to confirm the diagnosis and stage. Treatment depends on how established it is:

  • Focal shockwave therapy — targeted acoustic waves to help with pain and the plaque, using the same technology as our ED shockwave service
  • Medication and traction-based approaches where appropriate
  • Referral for injectable or surgical options in established cases

Peyronie’s often comes alongside erectile dysfunction, and we can assess and treat both together discreetly. Where advanced treatment such as surgery is the best option, we refer you promptly to a consultant urologist.

You’re seen by GMC-registered clinicians at our CQC-registered Whitechapel clinic. We keep clear, confidential records and, with your consent, share a summary with your NHS GP so your care stays joined up. A chaperone is available for any examination on request, at no charge.

You don’t need to be registered with us, and private care complements — it doesn’t replace — being registered with an NHS GP.

What we don’t do here

  • We are not an emergency service. For anything serious or life-threatening, call 999 or go to A&E. For urgent advice any time, NHS 111 is available 24/7.
  • We are an outpatient clinic and do not provide hospital admission or inpatient care.
  • Private care and screening complement, and do not replace, being registered with an NHS GP or national NHS screening programmes.

Is Peyronie’s disease common?

Yes — more common than most men think, and very treatable. There’s no need to feel embarrassed about seeking help.

Does shockwave therapy help?

Focal shockwave therapy can help reduce pain and improve symptoms, particularly in earlier disease. We’ll assess whether it’s suitable for you.

Will I need surgery?

Not usually. Many men are helped by shockwave, medication or traction. If curvature is severe and established, we refer you to a urologist to discuss surgical options.

Can you treat my erectile dysfunction at the same time?

Yes — Peyronie’s and ED often occur together and we can assess and treat both discreetly in one place.
