How to prepare and what to expect

No preparation is needed. Wear an open-necked top so the neck can be scanned easily. The scan is painless and involves gentle probe pressure on each side of the neck. Your scan takes around 15–30 minutes. During the scan a small amount of warm gel is applied and the probe is moved gently over the area. It is painless and there is no radiation. You will receive a doctor-led written report, usually the same day or shortly afterwards, with clear advice on any next steps.
